Hi, I’m Eve! I’m a experienced freelance journalist, writer, and editor based in San Francisco, and there’s a great chance I’d love to work with you, so please do get in touch.

These days, you can find me at Best Evidence, a daily email publication about the business of true crime I co-founded with Sarah D. Bunting. IN the recent past, I was also the editor of Eater San Francisco, a website about bars, restaurants, and the business of food and drinks.

Before that, I was the Senior Editor/Emerita at SFist, a blog about San Francisco and the Bay Area. Back in the early 00s, I was a co-founding writer (and eventually lead editor) of the site, which was part of the Gothamist family of publications until its shuttering in November of 2017.

In between now and then, I was also the San Francisco Chronicle‘s Deputy Managing Editor for Online, and started there as their blogging and interactive editor. I also founded the San Francisco Appeal, a news and culture site focused on San Francisco.

I’ve written about TV for Previously.tv, penned a regular column for Curbed SF, and have freelanced for a number of publications including 7×7, Inside Housing, and Racked SF.

In addition, I’m the co-author (with Patricia Corrigan) of 100 Things to Do in San Francisco Before You Die. I’ve also edited a couple of books, including installments in the Nothing But The Truth series and a memoir from one of San Francisco’s first female police officers, Good Cop, Bad Daughter.

But wait, there’s more. I’ve built and maintained direct-to-email publications for companies like Inside.com on subjects like San Francisco, podcasting, and the media industry. I’ve written game shows and trivia questions for companies like Drive.fm. And I’ve consulted on editorial and media strategy for a number of companies and organizations both inside and outside the San Francisco city limits.

If you’d like to work with me, send me an email at eve@evebatey.com. I’m always happy to chat.
